White Railing

This is listed elsewhere as a swimming area, but it was only a few inches deep when we were there. There arenโ€™t many real landmarks for the entrance, but it is across the street from the house pictured. There is just a small break in the trees and a little dirt run off to water.  It [โ€ฆ]

Smalls Falls

Our GPS is for a small parking area at the top of the falls, but there is a large parking lot with restrooms at the base, and a path that leads you directly to the main fall.  The dirt road for the upper lot isnโ€™t marked at all, you just have to look out for [โ€ฆ]

Eastman Park

This is a really cute park beside a house, and seems to be open to the public due to the land owners. Look for the blue house where the road crosses the Sandy River, and the path is before the narrow bridge.  There is a sign for Eastman Park, but it is a little hard [โ€ฆ]

Cathedral Pines Campground

This is a private campground, that offers an area for public swimming.  The campground itself is really unique, with towering trees and lakeside sites.  The waterfront sites book up months in advance, but we stayed at a forest site and it was still one of our favorite campgrounds, solely for the beauty of the trees. Riverside Park, Carrabassett River

Park in the large dirt parking lot along route 27, then follow the overgrown paved trail leading from the left hand side of lot into the woods.  The trail will split, and you follow the smaller path down to the water.  You can see the river from the parking lot, so it is easy to find. [โ€ฆ]

Rangeley Lake State Park

This state park offers lake swimming with wonderful mountain views.  The water is crystal clear and deep, and they allow unfettered access.  There is a large grass beach with stone steps leading down to the water. Across the Rangeley Lake is the town of Rangeley, a cute town that is located halfway between the Equator [โ€ฆ]

Lakeside Park, Riverside Park, Rangeley

This park is alternately called โ€œLakeside Parkโ€ and โ€œRiverside Park.โ€ This is a small town park in downtown Rangeley, with a swimming area and boat launch.  There are nice views of the lake, a playground, and covered picnic areas.  The swimming area is small, and probably better for children.

Ellis Falls

Weโ€™ve heard this is a popular swimming spot, however no one was there when we visited.  The dark water has multiple falls all pouring into a medium sized pool.  Since we didnโ€™t swim here and only photographed it, we donโ€™t know the depth of the water since you couldnโ€™t see that deep into it.  The [โ€ฆ]

Devilโ€™s Den, Silver Ripple Cascade

I guess there used to be a sign for โ€œDevilโ€™s Den Roadโ€ but during our visit it had been removed.   From the intersection of 120 and South Arm Road, follow South Arm Road for about 4.6 miles.  When you see the narrow black and white post sign marking the โ€œAndover Town Line,โ€ take the [โ€ฆ]

The Cataracts

This is a beautiful location, with two separate areas that might be possible for swimming. There is a calmer area above the main falls with small pools and various small waterfalls.  The other area is below the main waterfall, which is difficult to get to and not recommended for children. This pool is secluded and [โ€ฆ]
