Ampersand Beach, Middle Saranac Lake

This area is part of the Saranac Lake Island Campground, but the path to this location is from the Ampersand Mountain Trailhead parking lot on Route 3.  We have seen this listed as “Ampersand Beach” but it might not be the correct name for it.

Follow the trail leading towards the water from the parking lot, but NOT the main Ampersand Mountain Trail across the road.  You’ll see a sign for the camping area that we have a photo of. Follow this trail for around .6 miles and you’ll come to a little clearing with an outhouse, and the trail has a small opening for the large beach. The beach wasn’t that inviting for swimming when we were there as there was a lot of organic debris in the water, but other sources list this as a good swimming beach.  The water is bright copper and shallow for a stretch, and it has a certain beauty.

There is primitive camping by reservation.  The Saranac Lake Islands Campground seems to have a ton of waterfront campsites though.
