While this location is in Maine, you have to go through New Hampshire to get there. Â From North Chatham, NH, take route 113 N/Main Rd. and take a right onto Stonehouse road. Â The road divides in two; go right. Â This is Shell Pond Rd., but there was no sign, and it is just a one […]
This is an idyllic place for river swimming, with a massive sand beach curving along green water. Â There is a rope swing downstream on other side of the bridge, and a small island with what seem to be the ruins of a rampart. Â People were swimming, floating, and kayaking. Â The beach is big enough […]
Woodbury Pond Park has their address listed as 320 Whippoorwill Rd, but if you’re coming from route 126 the road is called Town Farm Rd. at one end, and this turns into Whipporwill Rd. The park is open from 9am-8pm, and leashed dogs are allowed. There are nice views, a small swimming area, metal playground, […]
This park used to be run by the state, but is now maintained by the town of Richmond. It isn’t staffed and the entrance fee is by donation.  Swimming is allowed at your own risk, and there are stone steps leading into the water, and tiny area of sand.  There is large grass lawn with […]
Willard Beach is small cove with about 4 acres of sand beach, and pretty views of stone forts and a lighthouse. Â There is a parking lot on Willow Road, which is off of the small circular turn around which marks the beach entrance. Â There is also some street parking where Willow ends on Preble. Â There […]
This is a large sand beach that connects to Old Orchard, though it would be a rather long walk. Â The beach is crowded, though it isn’t a popular as Old Orchard. Â There is more of a family feel as well, and not the party atmosphere that you’ll find closer to the boardwalk. Â There is a […]
Old Orchard is probably the most popular beach in Maine, and could be considered Maine’s version of the Jersey Shore. Â It has a boardwalk and amusement park, and there are lots of restaurants and tourist shops in town. Â The beach is overwhelmingly crowded, but if you are looking for a party atmosphere, this is the […]
Higgins Beach is one of the few surfing beaches in Maine, but unfortunately some members of the town have been beach access for years. Â Surfing is only allowed during certain times, and parking for Higgins Beach is a real problem. There is a small lot in town where you can pay $10 for the day, […]
This is a town beach with white sand and beautiful views. Â The parking lot is small, and it seems to be a fairly popular place, so you might have trouble getting in. Â Dogs are prohibited from 9am-5pm during the summer.
There is a short, but pretty walk from the parking lot to the beach, with a well maintained boardwalk passing through a grove a trees. Â The beach is large and sandy, and much less crowded than the nearby Old Orchard. Their website says there are restrooms, though we didn’t see where they were. Â There is […]
