Livermore Falls

This amazing location has everything you could want in a swimming spot. Located on the Pemigewasset River, there are sandy beaches, flat rocks to lay on, rocks to jump off of, rope swings, waterfalls and deep clear water. There are two sandy beaches located here, one is above the waterfalls (our directions lead here) and one located below the falls (where the cliffs and rope swing are). The falls separating the two areas can be very dangerous with swift currents and slippery rocks. So it’s better to pick an area and stick with it as both beaches have different entry points.

The upper are can be accessed by parking at the GPS coordinates we provided. There are two parking area located on the south side of US-3 N about .5 miles up from where US-3 N passes under I-93. At the end of the parking area there is a wide path that leads down to some train tracks. Cross over them and continue down the path past the old mill and down to a large sandy beach. Here there are plenty of places to lay and enjoy the day, the swimming hole is large and calm with a gradual sandy slope. Just be careful to not get too close to the falls. From here you can climb down the rocks to the other swimming spot, but it can be dangerous and also, you wouldn’t be able to bring anything with you since you have to swim to get to it.

To get to the lower beach area, along with access to cliff jumping and rope swings, take NH-175A E from downtown Plymouth for 0.8 miles and turn left on NH-175 N for 1.7 miles, then take another left onto Livermore Rd. and in a few hundred feet there will be a parking area on your left with a well marked trail down to the water. This place is very popular and I’m sure this parking area will fill up, especially on weekends. It’s very popular to bring tubes and other floats here and to lounge around on the calm waters below the cascades. There were a lot of people jumping from rocks of varying heights and going off two different rope swings.

This is one of our favorite locations around just from the sheer amount of fun things to do here. But please, be respectful, especially in regards to drinking and trash. This is one of those great places I can see the state shutting down, ruining a lot of enjoyment for many, just because of the bad choices of a few.
