Souhegan River Amherst

This is just a little boat access area, but people do swim here.  Traveling on Boston Post Road, if the Souhegan high school is on your right then take the second road on the right, just before a little bridge.  There is a small parking area with steep steps leading down to the water.

The water is a light tannic color, and it was pretty shallow when we were here.  There was poison ivy on either side of the steps, and on the surrounding banks.  We saw people taking the small trail to the right of the steps and entering the water down there.  The water is very still and has some organic debris.  From what we saw, I would think it would only be good for small children to play in.  There may be better areas downstream, but the chance of getting poison ivy was too much of a deterrent for us.
