Ausable Forks Dam

Park in the sandy parking area off of Ausable Drive, and follow the trail straight down to a clearing. There are a number of little trails of varying degrees of steepness, but you can hear the river from the parking area so pick whatever way seems best for you. Going towards the left will bring you along the shore of the upper dam- this is where swimmingholes.org says people swim, but I don’t know that I would unless I asked a local. The current doesn’t seem very strong, but this area is very close to the dam and it seems pretty easy to just go over it. The middle path that goes steeply down will bring you to the dam itself, and the paths going to the right will bring you the lower falls. There are obvious signs of partying, and no “No trespassing signs,” so it seems like you might be allowed to be here.  There is some kind of abandoned tower, and in the clearing someone has set up shop with a fire pit, lawn chaise, a table and a tiki light. In the lower falls there is a huge pipe with homemade ladders to crawl in it. It feels like you’re trespassing, but no signs and there isn’t a house right there…so maybe just some kids brought it down?  The area feels sort of like a clubhouse.
