Sewell Falls Recreation Area

Drive down 2nd Street and pass over the railroad tracks, and then take a left to access the parking area that is designated for boating.  This area seems a little industrial at first, and we weren’t sure if we were allowed to be here, but there is a public parking lot with a short trail leading to the river.  There are also walking trails in this area, though we didn’t explore them.

This is a beautiful spot next to the ruins of an old canal system, and popular with locals.   This is not a manicured park, and there is graffiti and debris around, but the overgrown stone walls give the area an interesting feel.  There is a small sand beach, with clear green water.  Children seemed to stick to the shoreline, and there are some rapids towards the middle of the river where people were rafting.
