Coos Canyon

Coos Canyon is famous in Maine, and is one of the most unique swimming holes in the state.  The canyon has smooth curving rocks, and green water flowing over multiple falls.  It is wonderful that they seem to allow, or at least not prevent, people from swimming here.  Some people swim below the bridge that crosses the gorge, and there seems to be a steep path down the side of the embankment near the bridge.

There is a small parking lot with picnic tables, and the access to the gorge is an obvious path from the parking area.  If the parking lot is full, there is another small lot just up the road, as you are heading towards Ranglely.  We didn’t see any restrooms, but there may be some across the street in the ice cream shop.
