Billings Lake
UPDATE 7/18/18
We were contacted by the DEEP and told that swimming is not allowed here, so this should be considered a “See” location and used for the allowed activities as outlined in their message:
“Parking for such activity is illegal under State regulations which is posted on the signboard. The only people allowed to park at the State boating launch are those engaged in boating, fishing, or offsite hunting or observing wildlife. Please note that any future reports of swimmers parking there will be referred by staff to our EnCon Police for action; which may involve ticketing and/or towing of vehicles. Therefore, as soon as possible, please remove the statement referring swimmers to the launch for parking. I also suggest that you go further and state that “ Swimmers are prohibited under CT DEEP regulations from parking at the State boat launch.”
PREVIOUS POST: Swimming is not allowed at the boat ramp, but we were told that people can swim off the rocks across from it. There is a dam near the boat ramp also, so if you swim, stay away from that too. Park at the boat ramp and then walk over the dam (which is fenced in), and you’ll see a path that leads to the outcropping of rocks. The rocks are large and good for sunbathing, and the lake is gorgeous. The water become deep quickly off the rocks and swimming is unobstructed. There is also a nature trail that goes around the lake.
