Buttermilk Falls, Mechanicville
This is a gorgeous waterfall that almost looks like something you’d find in the tropics. We would have rated it higher, except that there was a sort of unpleasant odor. Lots of crawfish in the water, and we were told that if you climb up the falls you’ll be covered in leeches. We talked to the people swimming there and they said that if you swim in the pool, and avoid the falls, you won’t get leeches on you. The water is green and cloudy, and there seems to be a deep drop off under the falls. There is a small parking lot/turn off, and you can see the falls from here. There is a very short but steep scramble down the embankment.
