Eternal Flame Falls

Eternal Flame Falls is really a wonder, and a very special place to visit.  As the name implies, there is a natural fire burning continuously behind the falls.  The falls are in Chestnut Ridge Park, which is actually quite large and has multiple entrances.  Our coordinates lead to the official parking lot for the Eternal Flame Falls Trail. Follow the blue and flame marked trail down to the fall.

We were here in August and the waterfall wasn’t running more than a trickle, but it was still an impressive sight.  The fall is in the middle of a ravine, and it almost feels like you’re on a pilgrimage in the middle of a jungle.  Trail is easy to moderate, but has a creek walk and some steeper parts.  We saw children and elderly people at the falls, so it isn’t too bad.  You should wear shoes that are good for hiking in the water though, and the trail is muddy and slippery in some places.  This is a popular fall, and it is hard to get pictures because so many tourists are trying to do the same thing.  So you won’t be secluded, but it is still worth the hike.
