Salmon River Falls

This is a beautiful fall, that is great for a visit, but this is not a swimming location.

There is a NYS signed parking area for Salmon River Falls Unique Area, with a trail leading from the lot to the falls.  The trail is steep, but well maintained, and has steps and ropes to help you down.  It is about 10 to 15 mins to the base.

This is a stunning location, with multiple falls flowing over a huge cliff into a massive pool.  There were lots of swimmers and people jumping off rocks, though swimming isn’t allowed here, and this is a “See” location.  The water seemed clear, but very deep and dark.  The ground appears to drop off quickly when entering the pool, and there isn’t much of a transition.

There are reports of strong currents and possibility for dam release, and we were contacted by a member of the parks department who reiterated that swimming is not allowed here, and that deaths have occurred.
