Vitale Park

This park is a “maybe swim.”  Different sources list it as having swimming or not having swimming, or as being temporarily closed for blue-green algae.  There wasn’t swimming when we visited, but sometimes the blue-green algae problem can persist for years.  Call the town office ahead of time if you want to swim. This is […]

Paper Mill Falls, Avon

This is a town picnic area next to a pretty fall, that looks sort of like a series of stone chairs. There is an easy path if you cross the bridge and go down the second trail on the left. We were told by locals that kids play in the falls and sit on the […]

Onanda Park

This park used to be a YMCA school and summer camp, and has lovely buildings and cute cabins for rent. There is a small sand beach, with a small to medium swim area, and clear water.  There are tennis courts, fishing, and extensive hiking trails available.  There are also some waterfalls on the hiking trails, […]

Long Point Beach Park, Conesus Lake

This is a little town park, with a small beach and swim area.  The water is crystal clear, but the swimming area is quite small.  It would probably be more fun for kids than adults.  There was a trailer marked “Sheriff” alongside the beach, though we aren’t sure if this is the actual police station. […]

Kershaw Park

This is a fancier town park than most, with updated and well maintained facilities.  There is a large swim area and a medium sized beach.  The beach is fenced off from the rest of the park, and you have to pay a fee to swim.  Dogs are allowed in park, but not the swimming area. […]

George Bridge

This is an unofficial swimming hole within Canawaugus Park. This is a pretty little town park, directly beside the water treatment building in Scottsville.  This is a popular place with locals, and we saw children playing in the shallows upstream, and jumping off the bridge-but you have to know where to jump.  There are stairs […]

Deep Run Beach

This is a nice town beach with a large swim area, and a medium sized sand beach.  There is a small picnic area.  This location is next to the intersection of County RD 1 and East Lake Road, and you’ll basically just see a parking lot by the water. http://www.co.ontario.ny.us/Facilities/Facility/Details/Deep-Run-Beach-3

Akron Falls

Swimming is not allowed here, though you might see people doing it anyway.  This is a public park though, so you are allowed to visit the falls. In the southeast corner of the parking lot there is a trail, and you follow it down until it splits into two.  If you take the right trail […]

Whirlpool State Park

This is a “See” location, and the park is on a ridge high above a massive whirlpool, which is downstream of Niagara Falls.  This is a really neat location, though it gets overlooked as most people just visit Niagara.  There are companies that run boat rides up to the whirlpool as well, or you can […]

Wilson Tuscarora State Park

There is a long but narrow beach with a mix of sand and stone, blue water, and a small swimming area.  There is a pavilion, and a large grass lawn you could picnic on.  Away from the lifeguard area there is more coast line that is still part of the park, and people were wading […]
