Dorchester Park

This is a beautiful town park on the bend of a reservoir.  There are expansive views, and boat rentals.  It seems like dogs are allowed in the park, but we aren’t sure. http://www.gobroomecounty.com/parks/directions

Alleghany State Park (Two Beaches)

Alleghany State Park has two beaches; Red House and Quaker.  We were able to photograph the Red House area, but Quaker was closed for the season by the time we got there on August 25th.  The ranger said that they always close Quaker early, and we aren’t able to provide any information for that location. […]

Skinny Dip Falls

This is primarily a nudist area, so do be prepared to see naked people. The parking area is at the end of Taylor road. This is a popular spot, and even though it was cool and cloudy during our visit, the parking lot was full. From the parking lot, follow the dirt road a couple […]

Richard O. Hartley Park, Lakewood Beach

We were running late and got here after closing, so we had to take pictures from around the fence.  There is a dock and swimming area, and a nice playground.  There also seems to be a dog park nearby. http://www.lakewoodny.com/recreation.php

Chataqua Gorge State Forest (Picnic Area)

Follow Hannum road to the end, and you’ll arrive in a parking lot where you’ll see two paths to the left hand side-one leading uphill, and one leading down. Take the one leading down. This is a wide and clearly defined trail, but it appears to be prone to wash outs, and is fairly steep. […]

Long Point State Park, Chautauqua

The swimming area was closed during our visit, but seemed to be fairly nice, though a little small.  The buoyed area is about the size of a pool, and has a grass beach.  Overall this park has updated and clean facilities, and pretty picnic areas. http://nysparks.com/parks/109/details.aspx

Lakeside Park, Mayville

The beach was closed when we visited, and it looked like it might have been that way for awhile, so it is worth calling ahead.  They do list themselves as having a swimming beach, so we aren’t sure what the deal is.  The water was a cloudy tan, and we didn’t see anyone swimming, though […]

Cassadaga Beach

This area was closed and surrounded by chain link when we got here, despite it being within the posted open hours-so you might want to call first.  This is a small beach with volley ball, basketball courts, two swimming docks, and a small swim area.  We couldn’t see very well from the outside. http://www.cassadaganewyork.org/cassadaga-beach.html

Barcelona Harbor Beach

This beach is close to Zebro’s Restaurant, and just has a small parking area which is easy to miss.  The sign says there is no lifeguard, and that by state law that means there is no swimming, but online people report swimming here…  The beach is rather unremarkable, but a good place to picnic. http://www.tourchautauqua.com/Where-To-Play/Beaches/Barcelona-Harbor-Beach.aspx?mid=13438&c=25

Wright Park

The street signs are listed differently on Google maps, but this location is actually on Pine Street.  You follow Pine St. from Warsaw St, and then the beach is next to the baseball field which is on N Serval St.  There is a parking lot that runs alongside the beach. There is a large sand […]
