Moffitt Beach Campground

This state park has a medium sized sand beach, with medium swimming area.  The camping sites around the lake are beautiful and spacious, and we recommend staying the night if you can get one. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/24483 http://newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/moffitt-beach-campground/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=NY&parkId=673

Lake Luzerne Campground at Fourth Lake

This is a fairly unusual campground in that it has one beach for day use and one for campers. The campers beach was technically closed when we were here but the ranger said people were down there, and there were a ton of people swimming. Having this beach closed was actually was nicer, as there […]

Black Hole/Dunkley Falls

From where U.S. 9 N and NY-28 split, just north of Warrensburg, follow NY-28 for 7.6 miles. Then turn right on Harrington Rd. for 1.8 miles, you’ll see street side parking on your right and a steep drop going down to a river. Usually there are cars parked here, and a few small signs but can easily […]

Jimmy Creek Falls

If you’re coming from Wells, there is a small pull off on the left hand side, which could fit two or three cars. The parking area is before the road passes over the stream, and the trail leads from here.  The trail follows along the stream, and it is only about a 2 min. hike. […]

Griffin Falls

Coming from the intersection of Route 30 and Route 8, follow Route 8 and take the first left, which you’ll see in about 2.6 miles. Follow this road over a bridge, and then park along the road to the right.  If you walk back towards the bridge, you’ll see that there is another road and […]

Christine Falls

Coming from Speculator, follow Route 30/Route 8, and you’ll see a sign for “Snow Plow Turnaround” with a dirt road on your left (this is the Old Route 8b/30).  Continue past this road and in about 0.3 to 0.5 miles you’ll see a small parking area on your left.  There is a short but steep […]

Austin Falls

This waterfall has turbulent water and a swift current, and we wouldn’t recommend swimming here after it rains. The access to Austin Falls is on a back road off of Route 30.  This road is called Old Route 8b/Old Route 30, and is in rough shape.  As you can see from the map below, this […]

Northampton Beach Campsite

This location is near the town marina, and there is a convenience store and mini golf nearby. This is a gorgeous state park beach with expansive views, a large sand beach, and clear blue water.  It is one of those places where you feel like you’re on the ocean, and it is very relaxing.  There […]

Mayfield Town Beach

This location is at the end of Burr Road off of Route 30, and there is a parking lot with a Port-A-Potty. This beach was really a surprise, and it is absolutely gorgeous.  The water is very clear water, and the views are lovely.  We aren’t sure how crowded it gets here, but it was […]

Lake Algonquin, Town of Wells Beach

This is a town-run recreation area, with a small sand beach and a medium size swim area.  They also have a diving board, which is fairly unusual.  This seems to be a popular spot for families. From all information, this beach is open to non-residents, but there was a guy following me in a hostile […]
