Chasm Falls Picnic Area

This is just a small beach that we found by accident, but would be a nice place to picnic.  You can park on a short dirt road off of route 27- if you’re headed towards Malone it will be on the left hand side and there is a brown and white sign reading “Chasm Falls […]

Allen Falls

On Allen Falls Road, park in small gravel area by the bridge, then cross the street and walk down the river, doing some bushwhacking along the way. Apparently there is a trail across the yard of the house across the street, but the guy was mowing his lawn when we were there, and that seemed […]

Meacham Lake

This is a state park with a large amount of campsites, over 200.  There is a medium beach and swimming area, which could get very crowded given the number of campsites.   It is a pretty lake and has a very large grass lawn for picnics, and a playground.  There weren’t many people on the […]

Lake Clear

This area is public access but the park sign has been removed. You can still see the remnants of the standard park sign- the brown painted wood with a T and a long arm-but the sign is gone. If you are coming from Junction Road the dirt road will be on your left, and if […]

Fish Creek Pond Campground

This location is unusual in that two campgrounds (Fish Creek Pond and Rollins Pond) both share the same entrance.  The beach is at the Fish Creek Pond site, and Rollins doesn’t have a formal swimming area. There is a nice playground and picnic area with large stone fireplaces, and a very small sand beach. It was closed […]

Ampersand Beach, Middle Saranac Lake

This area is part of the Saranac Lake Island Campground, but the path to this location is from the Ampersand Mountain Trailhead parking lot on Route 3.  We have seen this listed as “Ampersand Beach” but it might not be the correct name for it. Follow the trail leading towards the water from the parking […]

Moose Pond

We found this location while looking for a campsite, and it is technically a boat launch with some primitive campsites in the woods around it.  Moose Pond Road is quite rough, and your car could get stuck if there has been rain.  At the end of the road is a small parking lot, and the […]

Kent Falls

This location is on Kent Falls Road, which doesn’t have a sign, but if you are coming from Cadyville, it is the left before the bridge that goes over the Saranac.  If you follow this road you’ll come to a closed metal bridge with a parking area just before it.   If you park here […]

High Falls

High Falls is an impressive 120 ft. multi-tiered waterfall that cuts through the surrounding rocks and cliffs. The top of the falls is a dam, before which the river is calm, wide and deep. Up top I encountered a few fishermen who said there is good swimming above and some places to jump into the […]

Point Au Roche State Park

This is a park with really pretty views, but overall feels a little seedy and rundown. There was sort of unpleasant smell when we were here, and we aren’t sure how common that is. This area also has coves and an ocean like feel though, and a large swimming area and large sand beach. http://nysparks.com/parks/30/details.aspx
