Howard Park, Waddington

This is a town park with exceptional views of the St. Lawrence River, and is all around just a lovely area to spend the day.  There is a medium sand beach, a swimming area with clear blue water, and a playground.  One of the prettiest town parks that we visited. http://www.townofwaddington.com/recreationparks.html

Coles Creek State Park

This state park has a sand beach and a small swimming area.  The campsites surround the beach, which makes the area feel a little close and too crowded.  There are pretty views of the St. Lawrence River though, and you can see Canada across the water. http://www.nysparks.com/parks/72/details.aspx

Twin Falls and Stewarts Rapids

This location has two waterfalls, one of which is roadside, and the other is a 5-10 min. hike.  There is a very small parking shoulder for the roadside fall and then a short path right to the head of it. Just past the falls there is a small parking area, with a beach down to […]

Lampson’s Falls

Lampson’s Falls is said to be a popular swimming area, and it is just off of Route 115.  There is a pull off parking area on the main road marked by a state sign, and you’ll see a gated trail.  Walk about 15 minute down the path, and you’ll find a ramp zig zagging down […]

Cranberry Lake Campground

This is a state park with a small swimming area and sand beach.  While the beach area itself isn’t exceptional, you do get stunning views of Cranberry Lake.  This area seems to be popular with kayakers and boaters. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/24460.html http://newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/cranberry-lake-campground/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=NY&parkId=706

Copper Rock Falls

There is a dirt pull off for parking, and a very small sign saying “Copper Rock Falls” at the beginning of the trailhead.  The trail is on the right hand side if coming from the south.  The path to the falls is only about a 10min hike, though it was really muddy with some high […]

Town of Clifton Beach Park, Cranberry Lake

This is a teeny tiny park on Cranberry Lake, just off of Route 3.  The park is right next to the Lakeside General Store, and you’ll see a little building with a sign for the park, and a covered picnic area.  The swimming area is small, but it is a cute little park.  You’ll have […]

Postwood Park

This is the town park for Hannawa Falls, which has a medium sized beach and swim area.  There is a small playground, and restrooms-though the restrooms are a little run down.  The beach area is nice though, and well maintained. http://northcountryguide.com/Living/Potsdam-NY We didn’t realize that there is also a second town beach close by called […]

Jamerstown Falls

There are reports of swimming at this location, but we didn’t see anyone there.  It is a beautiful and peaceful area though, so it is worth visiting. From NY-3 go up Ny-56 N. for 2.5 miles, and you will see a small dirt road on the right, immediately after some cable wire guardrails. The road […]

Higley Flow State Park

This park has a small beach, with a mid-sized swimming area. There is a nice playground that even has a small climbing wall.  We didn’t find this park to be as scenic as some of the others, but it would be a great place for kids to enjoy. http://parks.ny.gov/parks/58/details.aspx
