Lake Algonquin, Town of Wells Beach

This is a town-run recreation area, with a small sand beach and a medium size swim area.  They also have a diving board, which is fairly unusual.  This seems to be a popular spot for families. From all information, this beach is open to non-residents, but there was a guy following me in a hostile […]

Speculator Town Beach

This is a pretty beach and park near downtown Speculator.  It is very small but laid out well, and a nice resource for the town. http://villageofspeculator.org/content http://www.nyroute30.com/towns/speculator.php

Poplar Point

This is a very small beach, and the swimming area wasn’t roped off when we were there, so it may be sort of an “open swim.”  The water is reedy, but looked okay. We were told that the other parks in this area don’t have swimming that year, but the ranger didn’t know why, since […]

Pine Lake Park

We don’t know if this is a private park or a town park, as it was closed when we were there, but they do have a day use fee and you don’t have to stay there to use the beach.  They have cabin rentals and RV parking, as well as a restaurant and ice cream […]

Lewey Lake Campground

We actually messed up in documenting this location for you guys, because it was so nice when we arrived that we decided to take the day and enjoy it.  The next day, of course, it was raining, so our pictures really don’t do it justice. This was a great little campsite beach, and it is […]

Caroga Lake State Park

We once again got caught in the rain while shooting here, but this park has a small swimming area, and a medium sized beach.  The picnic area is very pretty, and has nice views across the lake.  There are also boat, canoe, and kayak rentals available. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/24458.html http://newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/caroga-lake-campground/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=NY&parkId=627

Robert B Woodruff Outdoor Learning Center

This park is part of the Owen D. Young Central School, and you can park behind the school, and follow the trailhead from the lot.  From the lot, you cross over a small bridge, and there is an outhouse and small picnic area, and the trail continues from there.  The school allows public access, and […]

Glimmerglass State Park

This park has a REALLY large swimming area, and very clean.  This is one of the better state park beaches, and would be a nice place to spend the day.  This is a spacious park with a lot of picnic areas, concessions, and multiple lifeguards.  It was starting to rain when we were there, but we […]

Thompson’s Lake Campground State Park

This campground has a small swimming beach, and the campsites were a little crowded.  We didn’t find it to be one of the better campgrounds, but the nearby John Boyd Thacher State Park is a must see. http://www.nysparks.com/parks/99/details.aspx http://nysparks.com/parks/128/

Canajoharie Gorge

The access to this location is through Wintergreen Park, which is a very nice park with picnic areas, and some hiking trails.  There wasn’t a fee when we visited, but there may be at times.  While this park is alongside the water, the town is very serious about keeping people out of the gorge, and […]
