Scarborough Beach State Park

This is a beautiful park with a huge beach and open swimming.  The facilities are picturesque and well maintained.  There are actually two beaches right next to each other, with separate parking areas. One of the nicest parks we’ve seen, but we were here during the week, and judging by the amount of parking it is […]

Narragansett Town Beach

The parking lot was full, so we shot this location from afar.  We were here at 11am on a Monday and you can see how crowded it is already. This is a very popular beach, and they have large parking lots and a lot of in town parking, but it is pretty hectic.  It seems […]

Quaddick State Park

There is a large swimming area, with clear water and a sand beach. We were here on Father’s Day so it was very crowded, but that may not always be the case.  There are shaded picnic spots, and dogs are allowed in the grassy areas. http://www.ct.gov/deep/cwp/view.asp?a=2716&q=325252&deepNav_GID=1650

Governor John Notte Memorial Park, Wenscott Reservoir

This is a scenic little park, with some thoughtful landscaping.  There is an arched wooden bridge overlooking lily pads and water spouts, and swans resting in the shade.  The swimming area is large, with a sand beach and tannic water. There are tennis courts and a playground are available, and the facilities are well maintained. […]

Douglas State Forest, Wallum Lake

The park was very crowded during our visit, but we were here on Father’s Day.  The amount of picnic tables and shelters indicate that it might be popular in general though, so arriving early would be wise.  There is a large swimming area with double lifeguard stands and a sand beach.  The park also has […]

Briar Point Beach, Tiogue Lake

This is a town park with a sand beach and a small swimming area.  There are picnic sites available, and some are by the water. Dogs are allowed, but not on beach.

Otter River State Forest, Beaman Pond Recreation Area

There are two roped swimming areas, but they are among the smallest that we’ve seen.  They are probably only enjoyable for small children.  The park itself is lovely, and would be good for a picnic.  Dogs are allowed in the park, but not on the beaches. http://www.mass.gov/eea/agencies/dcr/massparks/region-central/otter-river-state-forest.html

Lake Dennison Recreation Area

There is a large grassy lawn, and a sizable sand beach.  The swimming area is fairly small though, and a little cramped on weekends.  Dogs are allowed in the parking area, but not near the beach, so it would be hard to bring a dog here. http://www.mass.gov/eea/agencies/dcr/massparks/region-central/lake-dennison-recreation-area.html

Dunn State Park

There is a small to medium sized swimming area with dark tannic water, and a sand beach.  They have pretty picnic areas beneath towering trees, and three play-sets for children.  Dogs are allowed in the park, but not on the beach.  There are walking trails available around the lake, so it could be a fun […]

Willard Brook State Forest, Damon Pond

There is pretty covered bridge walkway, lots of picnic areas, and a small nature center.  The swimming area is fairly small, but the area is scenic.  There are two beaches, but it seems like you are only allowed to swim in the one that has a roped off section.  A little down the road is […]
