Austin Falls

This waterfall has turbulent water and a swift current, and we wouldn’t recommend swimming here after it rains. The access to Austin Falls is on a back road off of Route 30.  This road is called Old Route 8b/Old Route 30, and is in rough shape.  As you can see from the map below, this […]

Northampton Beach Campsite

This location is near the town marina, and there is a convenience store and mini golf nearby. This is a gorgeous state park beach with expansive views, a large sand beach, and clear blue water.  It is one of those places where you feel like you’re on the ocean, and it is very relaxing.  There […]

Mayfield Town Beach

This location is at the end of Burr Road off of Route 30, and there is a parking lot with a Port-A-Potty. This beach was really a surprise, and it is absolutely gorgeous.  The water is very clear water, and the views are lovely.  We aren’t sure how crowded it gets here, but it was […]

Hope Falls/Tennant Creek Falls

Follow Hope Falls Road/Mud Creek Road to the end (there are signs along the road), to a small dirt parking area at the beginning of the trail.  This is state land, but you do have to cross private land to get to the falls.  There is a sign saying that the landowner allows this, but […]

Auger Falls

There are two trails you can take at this location, and they sort of meet in a loop- but the trail gets sparse and disappears for a ways, and we don’t really recommend doing the loop. To get to the swimming area- follow the left trail/small road from the parking lot, and in a couple […]

Poplar Point

This is a very small beach, and the swimming area wasn’t roped off when we were there, so it may be sort of an “open swim.”  The water is reedy, but looked okay. We were told that the other parks in this area don’t have swimming that year, but the ranger didn’t know why, since […]

Nine Corner Lake

There are two parking lots on opposite sides of the road, and you want to look for the trail that leads from the north side parking lot.  This trail is marked along the way, but it is the widest trail, and many of the smaller trails lead back to it.  Follow the markings though.  The […]

Lewey Lake Campground

We actually messed up in documenting this location for you guys, because it was so nice when we arrived that we decided to take the day and enjoy it.  The next day, of course, it was raining, so our pictures really don’t do it justice. This was a great little campsite beach, and it is […]

Caroga Lake State Park

We once again got caught in the rain while shooting here, but this park has a small swimming area, and a medium sized beach.  The picnic area is very pretty, and has nice views across the lake.  There are also boat, canoe, and kayak rentals available. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/24458.html http://newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/caroga-lake-campground/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=NY&parkId=627

Robert B Woodruff Outdoor Learning Center

This park is part of the Owen D. Young Central School, and you can park behind the school, and follow the trailhead from the lot.  From the lot, you cross over a small bridge, and there is an outhouse and small picnic area, and the trail continues from there.  The school allows public access, and […]
