Shelving Rock Falls

Our GPS coordinates were taken at the falls.  Along the road you will see state park signs, and you want to follow the ones for “Shelving Rock Falls.” If you are coming from the south you’ll see a sign marked “Shelving Rock Falls Trail” followed by a small bridge.  The parking lot is the first […]

Haviland Cove Beach

This is a small town beach that seems to be very popular with families with children.  There is a medium sized swimming area on the Hudson, with a sand beach and surrounding picnic areas.  There seems to be a kayaking launch as well.  You can see that upstream there is a rope swing on the […]

Trout Brook

A park ranger told us about this location, and that people swim here.  There is a cascade fall emptying into a medium pool with clear water and a sandy bottom.  We would guess that it is about 4 ft deep.  Reportedly there is more swimming up, and downstream, but we don’t know exactly where as […]

Shepard Park, Lake George

This park doesn’t seem to be as popular as the nearby Million Dollar Beach, so in some ways it is nicer as it seems like a more low key place to bring young children.  The swimming area is a straight away along the shore so you could do some laps, but there is less of […]

Northwest Bay Brook

Parking in the parking area that we’ve pinned on the map, and then cross back over Route 9N.  Hop over the guard rail, where there is a trail that is sporadically marked. You’ll go over a steep ridge and then a descent, where you’ll find a 20 ft. or so cascade, with large deep pool. […]

Lake George Dog Beach

Coming from downtown Lake George, this little beach is just before Million Dollar beach. Same sand same great views as Million Dollar Beach, but you can bring your (well behaved) dog here.  This beach is right beside the main road, so don’t plan on bringing dogs who aren’t trained to stay beside you.  There is […]

Hearthstone State Campground

This is a really lovely campground, with a medium sized swimming area and a larger sand beach.  They have a unique wood pavilion with arbors and picnic tables.  The beach is on Lake George and has turquoise water. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/24470.html http://newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/hearthstone-point/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=NY&parkId=505

Hague Brook Falls

Park at the signed HAGUE BROOK PUBLIC ACCESS lot that is close to a little bridge. You can walk upstream or carefully walk along the left hand side of the road. The fall will be on the left just a two minute walk. There are trails running along the stream, but the one that goes […]

Rogers Rock State Park

This is a nice state campground with a lot of camping sites.  They have a sandy beach on Lake George, with a nice view of the mountains.  They seem to have kayak rentals, and there is a boat launch. http://newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/rogers-rock-campground/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=NY&parkId=515 http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/24493.html

Port Henry Champ Park

From Main street, take Dock Street and then a  right on Beach Road.  This park was sort of dingy but had a nice walkway to the lake.  This could be a nice beach if cleaned up a little, though we did see something on their website about a clean up effort following damage from Hurricane […]
