We once again got caught in the rain while shooting here, but this park has a small swimming area, and a medium sized beach. The picnic area is very pretty, and has nice views across the lake. There are also boat, canoe, and kayak rentals available. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/24458.html http://newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/caroga-lake-campground/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=NY&parkId=627
This park has a REALLY large swimming area, and very clean. This is one of the better state park beaches, and would be a nice place to spend the day. This is a spacious park with a lot of picnic areas, concessions, and multiple lifeguards. It was starting to rain when we were there, but we […]
This campground has a small swimming beach, and the campsites were a little crowded. We didn’t find it to be one of the better campgrounds, but the nearby John Boyd Thacher State Park is a must see. http://www.nysparks.com/parks/99/details.aspx http://nysparks.com/parks/128/
This is such a great state park, and we were really surprised that we hadn’t heard about it before. As a scenic area we thought it was one of the best. There is no swimming on this hike, but there is camping and swimming at Thompson Lake State Park, which is part of the same […]
There is a medium to large sand beach, with a large swim area. The water is tannic water with a sandy bottom. This is a nice beach, though they only had one swim area open even though it was a Sunday. This seems to be a fairly popular area, so the water was crowded with […]
There is a marked, paved parking lot just beside the dirt road going down to the water. You can park here and walk 1 min to the stream, or park on the dirt road itself, but it is muddy. The current here moves visibily fast. We did see tents set up along the shore, and […]
Our GPS coordinates were taken at the falls. Along the road you will see state park signs, and you want to follow the ones for “Shelving Rock Falls.” If you are coming from the south you’ll see a sign marked “Shelving Rock Falls Trail” followed by a small bridge. The parking lot is the first […]
This is an exceptional state park, when you enter it almost feels like you’re going to the Caribbean. There is turquoise water by the shore, and a clear delineation of cobalt blue water as the lake becomes deeper. There are concessions, bathrooms and showers, and a large beach with multiple lifeguard stations and swimming areas. […]
Coming from downtown Lake George, this little beach is just before Million Dollar beach. Same sand same great views as Million Dollar Beach, but you can bring your (well behaved) dog here. This beach is right beside the main road, so don’t plan on bringing dogs who aren’t trained to stay beside you. There is […]
This is a really lovely campground, with a medium sized swimming area and a larger sand beach. They have a unique wood pavilion with arbors and picnic tables. The beach is on Lake George and has turquoise water. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/24470.html http://newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/hearthstone-point/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=NY&parkId=505
