Christman Sanctuary

This area is owned by the Nature Conservancy, and there is no formal ranger station.  The parking area is off of Route 74, and a little hard to spot as it just has an information sign as a marker.  The trails are maintained, but not always clearly marked, so pay attention to your route.  There are no dogs or swimming allowed at this location, though we observed both.

We came here after some flooding and the water was brown with a strong current, and the paths were quite muddy.  The easiest way is to take the path through field from the information sign, and then follow the yellow path to the right.  This will lead you down some slate steps to the river, and you can walk upstream from there.  At the end of the trail is a large waterfall and a lean-to. The swimmer said that only once has he seen a ranger come down, and he didn’t tell them to get out-just to be careful and not to jump off the rocks.
