Monroe Falls
The road to the falls is hard to spot, as it is just a dirt road on the right as you’re heading on Route 139 towards Monroe from Brooks. It is called N Center Rd. on Google maps, but we didn’t notice a sign, so it is a good idea to use our coordinates. The parking is a dirt pull off before a closed bridge, but only two or three cars can fit. There is a house very close to the falls that is for sale, and the parking situation may change. From the parking area there is a short steep trail down to the water, on the left side of the bridge.
We aren’t sure if this is private property, but it isn’t marked. I grew up nearby and people always swam here. To be honest there are leeches and eels, and one time my sister was sitting under the falls and a bunch of eels fell on her head, but with that said, it is a beautiful fall, and fun to explore. I’ve been swimming here multiple times, and have never had an eel or leech touch me. There is poison ivy in this area, though.
The water level of the pool was lower than normal when we were here, because it was a very dry summer. If the water is running fast it might not be safe to swim here.
