Christine Falls

Coming from Speculator, follow Route 30/Route 8, and you’ll see a sign for “Snow Plow Turnaround” with a dirt road on your left (this is the Old Route 8b/30).  Continue past this road and in about 0.3 to 0.5 miles you’ll see a small parking area on your left.  There is a short but steep trail down to the water from the parking area.

This was one of the best locations that we visited, and it feels like a hidden oasis.  There is a fall flowing from the dam with a small swimming hole at the base.  It was deep enough that some young girls were jumping, and there is a rope tied to a cliff to help climb up.   The pool is very small, and only around 5 people could swim at a time. This seems like a local place so please don’t bring a large crowd here, and always be respectful as it would be a shame for this area to be shut down.  We were told that there is another swimming spot downstream of the falls, but the way down is very rocky.  We don’t know the access status of this land, but Google maps has it listed as state owned, and it can be found in other guides.
